Bettermaker Mastering Limiter FAQ

Bettermaker Mastering Limiter

  • Burn time
There is no such thing like burn time.
You need just warm up unit before using.
Please power it on 15 minutes before you start working.
  • Mettering calibration
Calibration process is needed to match hardware metering section of Mastering Limiter with your DAW.
You need to calibrate input and output meterings independently.

Process is very simple and straight forward and it's described on limiters screen.
To do it propperly you need to setup few things:
    1. Plug audio cables from output of your converter to Limiter inputs.
    2. Plug audio cables from output of Limiter to inputs on your converter.
    3. Send 1 kHz sine wave at 0dBFs to Limiter.
    4. Open your favourite metering plugin in your DAW on return track from Limiter.
    5. Set Mastering Limiter to default.

Please go to Setup / Input Metering
Use INPUT and OUTPUT knobs on the Mastering Limiter 2.0 to match levels outgoing from DAW
Next please go to Output Metering
Use INPUT and OUTPUT knobs on the Mastering Limiter 2.0 to match levels invomming to your DAW.

Please note that the calibration is for metering only – it does not affect audio levels or any other part of the analog signal path. It's only here for the convenience of work with the Limiter.
  • Is the limiter output the same as celling?

The answer is simple - no.
Mastering Limiter output knob is the very last gain stage of the unit.
It's designed to match every AD converter.
Using it you can set output level of your master program to match headroom of your AD converter or even go above, if you'd like to clipp it0
  • Factory presets
There are no such thing as factory presets. All presets are user presets. The presets are used when you want to store it inside unit. If you use DAW there is no need to store presets inside of Limiter. All settings will be recalled when you launch session in DAW. Gain Reduction button is made protects from over limiting. If you set it to 2 dB limiter will reduce just 2 dB's of incoming audio. If you push it more you will not get more gain reduction. Rest of audio will pass to another stage which is clipper.
  • Limiter output
First of all you need to calibrate limiter metering system.
Please go to setup and follow online instructions.
If you make calibration right your daw metering will be the same as in limiter.
One thing you need to remember is that output knob in our limiter is designed to be flexible and setting it to 0 is not equal to 0dBFS in your DAW.
Each engineer uses different converters and that's why output gain can go above or beyond 0
It's also very handy if you need to clip your AD converter for sonic reasons - you can also do it with our limiter.
    1. please make metering calibration first
    2. output knob is not 0dBFS and you can push it up or turn it down according to your environment.
